KACE Cloud April 2024 Release

KACE Cloud has been updated with the following new features and enhancements:

  • Device Registration for agent-based device management
  • Support for Microsoft Windows Servers
  • Support for co-managing devices with other MDM solutions
  • KACE Cloud Companion Edition

Device Registration

KACE Cloud now supports agent-only management of devices through a process called device registration. By installing the agent directly on the device that you wish to manage, you can register the device with KACE Cloud and perform any agent-based management functions, including hardware and software inventory, software distribution, OS patching for Windows, and third-party application patching for Windows and macOS.

Agent-based management is available on any supported Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server, and macOS operating system.

In addition to manual installation of the agent, the KACE Cloud documentation includes instructions for distributing the KACE Cloud Agent using GPO’s as well as distributing through other management solutions, such as Microsoft Intune or VMWare Workspace One.

Read more about device registration in the documentation.

Microsoft Windows Server Support

By using the device registration capability previously described, you can now manage Windows Server devices through KACE Cloud. Windows Server does not support the MDM protocol available on Windows 10 or 11, but agent-based management capabilities are supported through KACE Cloud. The patch catalog feed now also shows patches targeted at Windows Server, and filters have been added to enable you to create patch filters specifically targeting Windows Server.

Co-managing devices with other MDM solutions

If you already have devices enrolled in another MDM solution, such as Microsoft Intune or VMWare Workstation, you can distribute the KACE Cloud agent to those devices and automatically register them with KACE Cloud for agent-based management. As previously described, all agent-based capabilities are available through the KACE Cloud product.

KACE Cloud Companion Edition

For customers who want to purchase only the agent-based management capabilities, you will be pleased to know that Quest is now offering the KACE Cloud Companion Edition. This edition of the product only supports agent-based management, but is a cost-effective way to add KACE’s agent-based management capabilities to your tool set. The Companion Edition has a minimum purchase requirement of 100 devices, and can be purchased either standalone or in conjunction with your current KACE Cloud subscriptions.
